This is what spring looks like here – kids wearing t-shirts and snow boots, eating ice cream on the only dry surface not covered in wet, melting snow.
Unfortunately it’s false spring – two unseasonably warm days before the regularly-scheduled cold and grey of winter makes its reappearance.
But we’re pretending this is “real” spring and making the most of it. Mr. Fixit washed our cars in the driveway and took advantage of the warm temperatures to do a little preventative maintenance too. The kids have the day off from school and they’ve been riding bikes around the neighbourhood. The other kids in the ‘hood are looking on enviously, wishing they too had parents who didn’t put the bikes away properly in the fall. Their bikes are all stored somewhere inaccessible, and it’s too much trouble for their parents to get the bikes out for one day of false spring. Not ours! Our kids’ bikes were shoved hurriedly into the front of the garage at the last minute when the snow started falling on Halloween. Today it took but a moment for the kids to drag their bikes out and start riding. Lazy parents for the WIN!
Tomorrow the freezing temperatures will return. We’ll walk around in a funk, calculating how many weeks (dare I say, months) until spring comes back for real. But for today, just for today…we’re going to pretend it’s really spring, and really enjoy it.
